About CO2NET®
CO2NET is a Carbon Dioxide Knowledge Sharing Network, which was initially set up under the European Commission's FP5 Programme. The now industry-led, self-funded Network comprises companies and organisations, across Europe, Middle East USA and Australia, who are extensively involved in the development of CCS. Our members are amongst the world’s most knowledgeable in the field of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), across all relevant industry sectors.
Principle Network Drivers
The key drivers for CO2NET continue to be the development of CO2 Capture and Storage (CCS) as a safe, technically feasible, socially acceptable option to help reduce the effects of human influenced climate change and to meet the CO2 emission reduction target set by the Kyoto agreement with a view to even greater emission reductions across Europe and beyond.
What we do
The members recognise that a substantial knowledgeable skills base is required, sharing that knowledge in detail, particularly from public funded research and development programmes and building the “people capability” in CCS. CO2NET® has evolved as CCS has developed and is recognised as having a niche role in providing education to understand CCS in detail across all its disciplines, to enable sharing of crucial lessons learned and transfer skills to personnel incoming to CCS, assisting its members to build the much needed “people capability” in CCS. No other organisation provides this educational opportunity
CO2NET® provides a one-stop resource and technical portal to CCS related information and project updates via the CO2NET® website.
Background
The CO2NET® Annual Seminar has become established as the flagship event for CCS networking in Europe, particularly to familiarize members’ newest CCS recruits with colleagues and share the newest CCS knowledge. Many projects and partnerships have been brokered at this event.
Following a hugely successful three-year programme from 2009-2011 and an impressive response from both existing members and now new members from across the globe, CO2NET® is planned to continue in 2012 and 2013, starting with its Discussion Series seminar in 2012 based on the Annual Seminar AND EXCLUSIVELY FOR MEMBERS. It is important that CCS engineers, geologists and technologists meet and talk, to present and discuss their actual work. CO2NET® in this role complements the strategic CCS initiatives. The knowledge base is further disseminated through the members’ website.
