17 - 19 March 2010  - Les Rencontres Scientifiques de l'IFP: 1st International Conference on Chemical Looping
Venue: IFP, Lyon. France

Over the last 10 to 15 years, chemical looping combustion processes have started to be investigated, the aim being to provide clean and efficient solutions for a number of applications, including combustion and hydrogen production. The chemical looping concept is based on the use of materials with oxidation-reduction cycles that can either oxidize or reduce feedstocks. In situ oxygen transfer is possible and this eliminates direct contact between air and fuel. CO2-rich effluents can be produced without using conventional air separation units for combustion cycles, thereby improving efficiency and enabling subsequent CO2 transport and storage in order to limit greenhouse gas emissions.
